Why Come to the FHC?

Here are a few reasons to come to the FAMILY HISTORY CENTER at the LDS Stake Center on the corner of Bear Valley Rd. and Ridgecrest Rd. in Victorville, CA!   South entrance...ring the bell...we let you in...

We have 11 state of the art computers! Big screens! We have ancestry.com for you to use free PLUS a host of other subscription sites. We have consultants eager to help you. There is much happiness in this big room...with people having success in their searches, with people finding long lost relatives/ancestors! There is a good spirit in this room!

Another view...

We have 2 computers that have scanning beds hooked up to them so we can teach you how to scan your photos and then attach them to your family tree!
We have a great xerox machine PLUS a big printer connected to all the computers...5 cents a page.

Here is a recent find for me...
I have been looking for my Uncle Peter's kids...the second picture down shows some of them. I include the first picture to remind myself and to show you that I got this image off the 1940 census of Stockton,Portage Co. Wisconsin.

If you go to familysearch.org on your home computer, it also has all the US censuses. For this one, I used the ancestry.com site.

So Much Has Happened

Dear Readers....

I did put a post on this blog in October this year...just to announce the Family History Conference to be held here in Victorville. I had been home just a day and then was called back to Wisconsin (where I had just spent 2 weeks) because my mom had died and there was a funeral to plan. I see that the post before the one announcing the conference was last year!.... Nov. 1, 2012!

Well..Since Nov 1 of last year,  so much has happened!  The main 2 events that happened are:  both my dad (born 1926 died 2012) and my mom (born 1927 died 2013) have passed away. Above is a picture I took of the pall bearers at my mom's funeral as they carried her casket to its resting place, juts a few weeks ago. As you can see...it was a glorious autumn day...October 22, 2013.

I seem to have passed into a whole new era of my life now...as some of you may have passed into...where  your parents are now on the other side...as well as your grandparents, great grandparents, etc. and their children...your aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles, etc.

The older I get, the more precious each day becomes. The older I get, the more I appreciate those who have gone before me.

I want my children and grandchildren to know who their forebears are.

I want to help you discover who yours are.

Hence, I have decided to put more posts on this blog and my other blog: elijahcame.blogspot.com .

So check my blogs often and see what you can learn!

I Am Still Here

Hooray! I am still here. I woke up this morning! I have work to do! I have family history work to do!
I need to get more space on all my blogs so I can upload more photos.  Who likes a blog post without photos of some kind???

What are you currently doing in the very important area of Family History? Need help? have questions? Call me! 1-760-241-1420.  Or put a comment on this blog post. or call the familysearch hotline:
            1-866-406-1830

Here is what I personally am doing now and what I want to do, in the area of Family History:

1. I am currently going through all the names I already have on my new.familysearch.org ...the site that allows you to create and save your pedigrees and family groups on the church's main computers so you can access it from any computer in the world. This site is also how you submit names to the temple! There is no other way!

Just know your username and password. By the way, your username and password for new.familysearch.org should be as familiar to you as your own phone number!!! This username and password gets you into all the church sites, also, such as store.lds.org

2. I found out today that I did not have one uncle and one aunt sealed to their parents yet. Oh my!

I found out today that my daughter went to the Mesa AZ Temple today and did a random name given to her...she did not know that I had a female name that needed an endowment. It is best to do your own people! It makes you feel closer to them. I resolve keep in better touch with the temple attending plans of our daughters and sons. I resolve to email them with information regarding who I reserved but am willing to unreserve so they can reserve names under their own account and then do the work.

3. I am starting to go sideways on collateral lines and have had great success finding names (Thank you, 1930 and 1920 censuses). This means, for example, that of all my great aunts and uncles, I have the names of their spouses and can therefore find their parents and siblings names, dates and places .

4.  I want to make a website that tells everything I know about my ancestors. I would like to model it after this website:  http://famhistory1867.com/

5. Since my parents do not have a computer, I want to compile 2 books....one about my dad's ancestors, and one about my mother's ancestors.

That's my list: What is yours?

FHC Christmas Party, Part 2

I split up the pictures that brother Zufall took at our party (December 5, 2009) at the Goates' home. Thank you Sharol and Doug for opening your lovely home to us! It was gorgeously decorated and the food was plentiful and delicious but most of all...the company was great!
